North Carolina Pre-school Garden Gets a Facelift
North Carolina pod Rotarians Gordon Still and Steve Puls, along with their wives, spent time giving back through hands-on service at a local preschool garden. They weeded, cultivated the soil, and planted an herb garden along with begonias, hydrangeas, and other flowers. Their efforts not only beautified the space but also created a colorful, vibrant, and hands-on learning environment where children can explore nature, develop curiosity, and gain an early appreciation for gardening and healthy living.
Sleep in Heavenly Peace - Rochester, New York
Rotarians Helen Gormont along with Ann and Dave DeMers from Rochester NY volunteered with Sleep in Heavenly Peace to deliver and assemble new beds in several locations for disadvantaged youth.
The children were so excited to get their new bed they even helped with the sheets, blankets, and pillow case for their first night’s sleep.
The Sleep in Heavenly Peace organization is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to building and delivering handcrafted beds to children in need who are currently sleeping on floors, couches, or in other inadequate conditions.
Open Door Mission - Rochester, New York
Rotarians Sharon Spencer, Ann and Dave Demers, and Helen Gormont volunteered with the ROC City Rotary to make peanut butter and Jelly sandwiches. The food was prepared and donated to support the Open Door Mission and help the homeless in Rochester NY.
The two Rotary Clubs partnering provided an opportunity to enrich fellowship and lay the groundwork for future service project opportunities.
Project Enlightenment - North Carolina
Rotarian Steve Puls’ family and a friend from the Morrisville, North Carolina Rotary Club participated in a Holiday Food Drive. It had an extra component of specialty items for our Hispanic community, who were unable to go out to the store. Through Project Enlightenment, we organized a small band of volunteers to make home deliveries to those in need - especially those with infants.
Inspired Hearts & Hands - Mars, Pennsylvania
Rotarians Michelle and John Bailey, along with Interactors from the Mars (PA) Area School District, wrapped gifts for those in need across 25 local school districts served by Inspired Hearts and Hands. Our club, partnering with an Interact Rotary Club, provided an opportunity to enrich fellowship and inspire these young Rotarians to search for and engage in future service project opportunities. Side note … our club member Debi Varner's daughter Ashlyn is serving as President of the Mars High School Rotary Intertact Club.
Ronald McDonald House - Rochester, New York
Rotarians Ann and Dave DeMers along with Helen and Bill Gormont volunteered at the Ronald McDonald House to prepare a Mexican dinner with all the trimmings.
The Ronald McDonald House in Rochester NY provides a "home away from home" for families with seriously ill children, offering lodging, meals, and support near hospitals, often for little or no cost. It fosters community, and eases the burden of treatment far from home. These programs offer private rooms, kitchens, laundry, and wellness activities, supporting families during stressful times.
